ChagallPAC: Empowering a Community through Art & Culture
The Chagall Performance Art Collaborative (Chagall PAC) is a community of artists committed to collaborating across disciplines and exploring the ways in which we experience art. They believe art is never the same in any given moment, but rather evolving and continually being shaped by the imaginations of those who come into contact with it. ChagallPAC creates performances that involve audience participation and expand to the newest reaches of contemporary performance art. Additionally, they are excited to be selling visual art by ChagallPAC artists, inspired by the interdisciplinary!
ChagallPAC just opened a new space on Artists’ Row in Salem! Directors, Diana Norma and Dennis Shafer have been collaborating with other artists from around the world for over 10 years now, commissioning interdisciplinary works for combinations of poetry, visual art, music, dance, theatre, and computer programming. This new space on Artists’ Row represents the first time ChagallPAC has a space of its own to showcase its members' art!
Diana Norma and Dennis recently transplanted to Salem from Brooklyn, New York where they lived and worked as artists and teachers. They enjoy being surrounded by unique, creative people Salem cultivates through programs on Artists’ Row and by the Creative Collective. Diana Norma sells her books (poetry, craft of writing) in the space, as well as handmade jewelry and vintage art objects she has transformed with creative touch, healing reiki energy, and sometimes, inscribed words. Dennis teaches music lessons and makes paper mâché sculptures of musical instruments.
Dennis and Diana Norma are organizing events for ChagallPAC's many collaborators, hosting a salon-style Interdisciplinary Arts Cabaret that will meet on second Fridays starting in March.
The corners of the studio are devoted to writing, drawing, sculpting, and music-making, which the public are welcome to join by appointment, to have music lessons (musical instruments provided for free/borrowing by The Musary, and instrument-lending library), workshops in creative writing, balloon twisting, paper mâché sculpting, and much more.
